Schizophrenia is a disease that most commonly appears in adolescence or early adulthood.
Common signs include social withdrawal, unusual behavior, and worsening performance at school or work. While our knowledge of schizophrenia is growing, it remains a challenging illness to treat. Nevertheless, a thoughtful treatment plan and a supportive living environment can help many patients move forward with their relationships and vocational aspirations. The science behind schizophrenia and its treatment has been a longstanding interest of mine, and I have published several articles on this illness.
